If you can see it, you can be it.

Let’s face it. Humans are visual creatures. If we weren’t we wouldn’t feel all the pressure to look good. In weight loss, visualization is key. It may take a long time to get to where you want to be but if you can see it, you can be it. I never would have thought I’d come this far if it weren’t for positive visualization. I can see my end goal in sight and nothing will stop me to get there.

I can be guilty of scanning Pintrest for hours looking for before and after photos. My brain comparing myself to others. This is so unhealthy. It can even be discouraging. We all have different body types and metabolisms.  What may have worked for her, may not work for you. General calorie reduction and working out will always yield results. The variables are where you will lose on your body and how long that will take. You also need to take into consideration that there is a lot of editing going on. Photoshop can make one look slimmer. Butt implants can make someone have a perfect round bum. No one is going to admit to the surgery if their career is based on looking perfect.  You can use these photos to inspire and guide you but do not let them be the only form of visualization for you.

My favorite way to see progress is to have a physical indicator in front of you. I use my wall calendar to keep on track. Each time I go to the gym, I highlight the top of the day with a yellow marker. If I do an alternative workout, I will use a different color. It really helps to remind me to stay active and on track. You know if all those days are colored, results will follow.

I’ve seen bead jars a lot. I love this idea. There is instant gratification to moving beads from one jar to another. It helps when you are focusing mostly on pounds lost. I suppose you could also do it for overall inches lost but it would be a little trickier that way.

lost to go

I recommend that once a day, you meditate on your goals. Pick three goals you want to achieve and spend about 5 minutes bringing the pictures into clear focus in your mind.  One of those should be where you want your health to be. Envision yourself in your best body. Pick a place that you love and think of yourself doing something you love there in that body. For me the place and activity always varies. I’m either dancing in a big sunny room, hula hooping in the park, hiking a beautiful trail, or walking a shoreline. The scenario is different but my body is always the same. I see myself as curvy, strong, and above all HAPPY. A smile on your face will help this exercise to stay in your mind longer.

As you get closer to your goal that visualization will start to become a reality and you can be proud of how for you came.
