Happy Mother’s Day!

mother day funny mom comic

Happy Mother’s Day to all the beautiful mothers out there! I hope you have a lovely day and get spoiled like you deserve!

Motherhood is hard work. No one prepared me for just how chaotic it can be. It is the hardest yet most rewarding thing in the world.  We often fall into bad habits out of convenience.  Schedules can be hectic. Children are always unpredictable. We do not need to let these habits be for life and by correcting them, we can set good examples for our kids.

My worst habit used to be eating their leftovers. My picky eaters would leave halves of sandwiches, veggies, mac and cheese, you name it. I wouldn’t want the food to go to waste so I would eat it even if I wasn’t actually hungry. I once had a nutritionist tell me “would you rather food go to ‘waste’ or to ‘your waist’?”  She was absolutely right. I started putting what was salvageable away and the rest went into the trash. When I was diagnosed with a gluten intolerance after A. was born, it became a lot easier to resist the carbs they left behind.

Sometimes we find it hard to find time to exercise because of child care. I was excited to find a gym that has a lovely daycare for members. You are allowed up to two hours while you use the facility. This has helped me create time for myself that I think every mom deserves. It may be easier to herd cats than to get my kids in the car on time, but I get there. I recommend finding a gym that has child care to all moms. It may be a little costlier but it could be as simple as giving up coffee at a shop and making it yourself. Little sacrifices make big differences.

Not giving yourself enough “me” time can be the worst habit to form. As mothers, we take care of everyone else and our homes first. It is in our nature, but if we don’t take care of ourselves, we cannot be at our best for everyone else. Making time to exercise or eat well will help you to be healthier and less stressed so you can handle whatever life throws at you.

Even as I write this, I have a preschooler jumping into me yelling “cannon ball!”. There is never a dull moment for a Mom. Enjoy it. They are only young once. ❤
